Laser Vision Correction

LASIK is turning dreams into reality for people all over the world. Using the light of the Excimer laser, this procedure can eliminate a lifetime of dependence on glasses and contact lenses and takes only a few minutes to perform.

LASIK is an acronym for Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis, which simply means "to shape the cornea (outer window of the eye) so that light rays focus more precisely on the retina, thereby reducing or eliminating refractive errors.

Laser Eye Procedure

Using an instrument known as a microkeratome, a thin flap
of corneal tissue is folded back.

The Excimer laser then removes a predetermined amount of tissue from the inner cornea to correct the individual's refractive error. The cornea is made flatter to treat nearsightedness, steeper to treat farsightedness and/or more spherical to correct astigmatism.

The corneal flap is placed back in its original position where it bonds without the need of stitches. LASIK can treat low to very severe refractive errors.

The advances in Laser Vision Correction (LVC) have been tremendous over the past few years and new procedures and techniques are constantly being investigated and approved. Dr. Brooks has seen excellent results with his laser vision correction patients.

Drs. Brooks is certified as a LVC specialist. We take extra time to explain and detail the various forms of LVC. Our results have been excellent because of a careful LVC process that involves extensive testing and education before the decision to pursue LVC is reached.

The LVC "market" has gotten overly competitive and the quality of the procedure can vary trmendously. We occasionally see patients that have been told that they are excellent candidates when actually they are not. Our philosophy, like all things in our office, is to educate you on the procedures and options and help you make the proper, informed decision.

If you have any questions about LVC, or would like a second opinion about you being an acceptable candidate, please give us a call and ask for our laser vision coordinator.
