Dr. Brooks is Board Certified in the Medial Examination, Diagnosis and Treatment of all vision problems, eye diseases and disorders. This is the highest accreditation level for his specialty.

Dr. Brooks opened Coastal Eye Care in 1988. His family history goes back in South Carolina for many generations.

Dr. Brooks grew up in Charleston, graduated from St. Andrews Parish High School and The College of Charleston. He was accepted into the University of Alabama Medical Center’s Optometry Program, one of 2 residents accepted from South Carolina each year. Dr. Brooks returned to Charleston and started practice in 1988.

Dr. Brooks performs routine as well as medically oriented exams. This also includes examinations for eye diseases associated with systemic problems, such as high blood pressue and diabetes, as well as for cataracts, eye infections, glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal problems and eye trauma.
